Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Quotes

October 21, 2022

OPENING STATEMENT: “Alright the only person that didn’t practice today was (Rashad) Fenton. Everybody else practiced. His hamstring is getting better, but he’s not ready right now. So, listen we look forward to the challenge of playing the 49ers. We know they’re a good football team. We’ve had a good week of practice. I think the guys are looking forward to that challenge. (The) time’s yours.”

Q: What’s Willie Gay looking like on the practice field?

REID: “Yeah, he’s brought good energy. He’s taking all the reps, so he’s done a nice job.”

Q: So will Willie Gay be elevated on Sunday?

REID: “Yeah, pretty good chance.”

Q: What about Trent McDuffie, will he play?

REID: “We’ll see. I’ll see about all these guys here in about a minute.”

Q: Willie Gay is even a ‘sideline energy’ guy, I assume in meeting rooms as well, have you missed him over the past month with him not being out there for you with the energy?

REID: “He’s got a great attitude. He’s a positive kid. He has that childish personality. He brings good energy to the room. So, it was good to get him back in here the last couple of weeks, yeah.”

Q: Do you prepare for Christian McCaffrey potentially playing this weekend?

REID: “Yeah, so we know he’s a talented guy. I’m sure they’ll work him in. We’re expecting that. You just prepare for what he does well, and (49ers Head Coach) Kyle (Shanahan) will use him (with) what he does well, I’m sure.”

Q: On Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors. What, if any, is the interest level?

REID: “Yeah, I can’t – listen Herbie (Teope), I can’t get into all that. He’s a heck of a football player, that I can tell you. I don’t know where he is as far as his rehab goes and that whole deal. Nor do I know what (General Manager) Brett (Veach) – Brett’s always maneuvering. He keeps his eyes open on everything. In my position, I’m like tunneled in on what I’m doing and trying to get the team ready to play with the guys we got. But I’m not going to slight him, he’s a good football player.”

Q: With the trade in the middle of the season, there’s been a lot of talk about players and coaches getting a boost. Do you get a similar boost on the opposite end if that player traded is facing you for the first time?

REID: “I think the way the guys take it is another good player comes in, and they have enough good players there to where you better have been focused in before this took place. They’re very talented and the guys have had a good week that way, so I think add one more maybe it does, maybe it gets their attention a little bit more, but they’ve been tunneled in on this – knowing that they’ve got some real good talent.”

Q: Generally speaking, how long does it take somebody to be ready to go?

REID: “Oh, he’s been playing. He’s a smart guy. You saw that when they brought in the receiver. I mean he came in, jumped in and played – he was there a couple more days, but I mean he jumped in and played 80% or 90% of the snaps. You can get a guy ready.”
