Reid, McDuffie Quotes: Sept 12

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Quotes

September 12, 2025

OPENING STATEMENT: “Alright, guys that didn’t practice – Jalen Royals didn’t participate today. Xavier (Worthy) did a little bit of the team work, but that was it and then everybody else worked. We look forward to the challenge of playing the (Philadelphia) Eagles. They’re a good football team, and we look forward to bringing them in to (GEHA Field at) Arrowhead Stadium. With that, time’s yours.”

Q: Is there any chance that Xavier Worthy will play on Sunday?

REID: “I’d probably tell you it’s slim, but there’s still a chance.”

Q: Is Xavier Worthy’s outlook better than anticipated?

REID: “Yeah, he’s (Xavier Worthy) doing very well. He’s doing very well. (It’s) positive, all the stuff is positive.”

WR JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER

Q: What does Xavier Worthy being back on the field so soon say about his character?

SMITH-SCHUSTER: “Yeah, I mean, it says a lot about his character. I mean, he’s (Xavier Worthy) a guy that’s been playing through injuries in the past and that’s something that he’s preached about. So, just seeing him out there, catching balls (and) moving around just shows that whether it’s a small injury or a big injury, he’s pushing through to be back.”

Q: What’s it like to watch the replay on the pass that Patrick Mahomes threw to you in Week 1?

SMITH-SCHUSTER: “I mean, it’s pretty impressive, I would say. On his (Patrick Mahomes) end, to see that, especially when there’s so much chaos. You’re getting guys that’s in off the end, they’re forcing you down the middle (and) you have guys running at you. I think it’s more impressive to see him do something like that than me just standing there catching the ball, you guys have seen that numerous times. But I think with him it’s always pretty cool to see him do something like that.”

Q: What are you expecting out of this group on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles while coming off of a Week 1 loss?

SMITH-SCHUSTER: “I mean, as a whole, I mean, we’re expecting to just go out and start fast. Especially as an offense. I feel like last week, it was one of those that kind of started off slow and in the second half we pick(ed) it up. I think coming into the game with the guys that we do have, it’s just go out there and play for each other. We talk about just coming out and just playing for each other. That’s what it’s all about. Let’s stop the self-inflicted wounds and just go out there, have fun (and) play ball – something that we’re known to do.”

CB TRENT MCDUFFIE

Q: How tough is it to go against Eagles QB Jalen Hurts?

MCDUFFIE: “Yeah, I mean it’s the NFL. We go against a lot of great quarterbacks. We go against quarterbacks who can run, who can throw (and) who can do both and I just think as an overall defense we always rise up to those challenges. We take that head on and we know they (Philadelphia Eagles) got (Eagles WR) DeVonta Smith, (we) know they got (Eagles WR) A.J. Brown, (and) (Eagles WR) Jahan Dotson is a great player who can get in there. They do a lot of great things, and they do really well at what they do. So, going into this game is just going to be more about us and being really good at the basics versus doing anything outside the box or anything too crazy.”

Q: How has Kristian Fulton been grasping Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense?

MCDUFFIE: “He’s (Kristian Fulton) doing good. You look at him (and) he missed all training camp. He got his mental reps but actually getting in the game, playing with a new defense for him (and) playing with new guys who do different things, that kind of takes a little time (for) that feel. But from what I’ve seen, he’s just kept attacking day in and day out. And he’s asking all the right questions and he’s out there hustling, which – that’s all we ask for. You come in, you work hard, and you try to learn the defense and you go out there and do your best and I think that he’s one of those guys that’s going to be able to do a lot for us.”

Q: How do you describe what a home opener is like a GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium?

MCDUFFIE: “It’s exciting. I’m sure the fans will be out there (at) 2:00-3:00 AM getting ready already. So, we’re excited and it gives the defense a little advantage (by) making it loud, bringing that energy and I’m just excited to get back in front of that crowd.”
