New Orleans Pelicans hire Mike D'Antoni as consultant

Mike D'Antoni has been hired as a coaching consultant to Willie Green's new staff in New Orleans, it was announced Wednesday.

In addition, the Pelicans hired ex-Golden State Warriors assistant Jarron Collins to Green's staff.

D'Antoni, 70, completed a season as a full-time assistant on Steve Nash's staff with the Brooklyn Nets before recently stepping down.

D'Antoni will periodically spend time with Pelicans' coaching staff through summer league, training camp and season.

D'Antoni won the 2005 Coach of the Year award in Phoenix when Nash was his point guard, then another with the Houston Rockets in 2017. He has long been regarded as one of the NBA's best offensive coaches and helped the Nets reach the second round of the playoffs, where they lost to eventual champion Milwaukee in seven games.

Collins, a 10-year NBA veteran, had been with the Warriors since 2014 before he decided to move on in June.

Green and Collins were on the same Warriors' staff from 2016 to 2019, before Green left to spend two seasons on the bench with the Phoenix Suns.

D'Antoni and Collins join assistant coaches Casey Hill, Fred Vinson and Teresa Weatherspoon, along with player development coaches Corey Brewer, Darnell Lazare and Beno Udrih, on Green's staff.
