Russell Wilson cooking early with Tyler Lockett, pairing up for two big Seattle Seahawks scores

NFL, Seattle Seahawks

INDIANAPOLIS -- Tyler Lockett did his best Willie Mays impression to score the Seattle Seahawks' first points of the season.

Lockett broke in the Seahawks' new offense in style when he made a difficult adjustment on an over-the-shoulder lob in the end zone from Russell Wilson. That 23-yard touchdown put the Seahawks up 7-3 over the Indianapolis Colts late in the first quarter. It was one of three third downs Seattle converted on its first drive under new coordinator Shane Waldron.

How tough was Lockett's catch? Per NFL Next Gen Stats, Wilson's throw had a 30% catch probability. Since 2018, Wilson has an NFL-high 23 passing touchdowns with a catch probability at or below 30%. Wilson entered the season with 41 touchdown passes of at least 20 air yards over the past five seasons, most in the NFL. With the touchdown catch, Lockett has 38 career receiving touchdowns with the Seahawks, passing Joey Galloway for fourth in franchise history.

The Wilson-Lockett connection wasn't done after that score, either, as they paired up again for a monster 69-yard touchdown with 41 seconds left in the half.

That pass from Wilson had an air distance of 59.4 yards, which is his second longest on a touchdown since 2016, per NFL Next Gen Stats.
