Kansas City Chiefs CB L'Jarius Sneed out vs. Las Vegas Raiders after brother's death

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs notched a 48-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders without starting cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, whose brother was killed Friday night in Louisiana.

Sneed has played more snaps this season (714) than any other Chiefs defensive player.

T'Qarontarion Harrison, who was largely responsible for raising Sneed as a child, was killed during an incident Friday.

Police in Minden, Louisiana, say a woman, Angela Washington, has been charged with second-degree homicide. Sneed remained in Louisiana on Sunday to be with his family.

Several Chiefs players said their thoughts were with Sneed during Sunday's game, which began with Kansas City scoring on defense on the first scrimmage play of the game when cornerback Mike Hughes returned a fumble for a touchdown.

"We started the game with some L'Jarius energy," Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu said. "We kind of kept it going throughout the game."

Added Hughes: "He was on everybody's mind. Before the game we said we were going to play for him."

The Chiefs got back No. 3 cornerback Rashad Fenton, who injured his knee in a Week 11 game against the Dallas Cowboys and did not play in last week's game against the Denver Broncos. He was listed as questionable to play Sunday in the final injury report of the week.

The Chiefs had two first-round draft picks, Mike Hughes and DeAndre Baker, in line for more playing time in Sneed's absence. They also had Josh Jackson, a second-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, who was elevated off the practice squad and was in uniform Sunday.
