Sunday's meeting between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs was supposed to be the spotlight game of Week 9 and the first meeting between MVP quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Instead, Mahomes faced Jordan Love, who made his first career start.
Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, and because he is considered unvaccinated by the NFL and NFL Players Association, he was required to serve a 10-day minimum quarantine that kept him out of the game Sunday.
Love, who was selected out of Utah State in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, had attempted seven passes in his career prior to the matchup.
Mahomes and the Chiefs (5-4) have been uneven over the past five games. They were crushed by the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans but got wins against the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington and the New York Giants. Mahomes has struggled with interceptions, but did not turn the ball over against the Packers as the Chiefs cruised to a win in a low-scoring affair.
Kansas City strikes first
After two consecutive unsuccessful running attempts from just outside the end zone, Mahomes found Travis Kelce on third down for the first score of the game.
Perhaps passing from the 1-yard line isn't that bad after all.

Love picked off in the red zone
L'Jarius Sneed celebrated Love's first career start in the most fitting way possible for an opposing defender. Sneed's red zone interception ended a Packers drive that appeared promising. Green Bay has not been shut out since Week 17 in 2018, but remained scoreless through 3 1/2 quarters.

Green Bay gets on the board
Love & Co. managed to get on the board in the fourth quarter with Allen Lazard's 20-yard scamper to make it a one-possession game.
