DURHAM, N.C. -- The Citadel coach Duggar Baucom was taken to a hospital after collapsing barely a minute into Monday night's game against No. 5 Duke.

The 61-year-old Baucom fell along the sideline with Duke leading 3-2 and 18:57 left in the first half. He was conscious as he was helped out of the gym by medical personnel and taken to Duke University Hospital.

Associate head coach Jack Castleberry took over for The Citadel, which ended up losing to the Blue Devils, 107-81.

"All things considered, he's as good as he can be,'' Castleberry said. "He was coherent the entire time. ... He just said he was in pain.''

The team later said in a statement that Baucom is "alert and in good spirits" and will remain in the hospital overnight for further evaluation. He'll return with the team Tuesday morning to Charleston, South Carolina.

The Citadel's Hayden Brown scored off an offensive rebound just before play was stopped for Baucom, who is in his seventh season at the school.

The Bulldogs dealt with the incident by refocusing quickly.

"When you go to school at The Citadel, you face some pretty challenging stuff,'' Castleberry said. "As scary as that is and as ... terrifying. They know they got to push through. That's what you're taught day in and day out.''
