Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (ankle) inactive for game against Carolina Panthers

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was inactive for a second straight game Sunday for Arizona's 34-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

The third-year quarterback went through a series of short throws about an hour and 45 minutes before Arizona's kickoff while being watched by head trainer Tom Reed. At one point, Murray jumped up and down on his toe a series of times, but Arizona ultimately made the decision to sit him as the Cardinals have the Seattle Seahawks next on the schedule.

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game that Murray was "progressing" but "wasn't ready" to play Sunday. He added that Sunday's outcome would not influence his decision to play Murray next week in the team's NFC West showdown against Seattle.

"We're going to be smart, make sure he's 100 percent or close enough to where he can do his thing," Kingsbury said. "Like I've said, whatever percent that is, he's got to be able to move and make plays and do what he does."

Backup quarterback Colt McCoy made his second straight start for the injured Murray. He left the game in the third quarter and didn't return with what he said was a pectoral issue. Third-string quarterback Chris Streveler finished the game.

"Just got a little tight and had got hit a couple times," McCoy said after the game. "I was kind of feeling it and then it just got to a point where I needed to get it checked out. But all the tests are still ongoing back there."

Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was also inactive for a second straight week.
