Alex Bregman, out since June, returns to Houston Astros, scores winning run

MLB, Houston Astros

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman, who hasn't played since June 16 because of a left quadriceps strain, was activated off the injured list and scored the winning run in the 10th inning of a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

"A lot of people have forgot," Bregman told reporters before the game. "Let's show them."

Bregman did just that, going 2-for-5 with a long RBI double off the wall in the sixth inning. He scored the winning run in the 10th on a Jake Meyers ground ball.

Manager Dusty Baker said he is glad to see his team getting back to full strength with Bregman and Kyle Tucker, who returned Tuesday night after spending 10 days on the COVID-19 injured list.

"We're starting to get whole again," Baker said. "It was great to have both my guys back."

Bregman, the runner-up for AL MVP in 2019, is now hitting .278 with seven homers and 35 RBIs in 60 games this season.

He worked out at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday after playing a rehabilitation game for Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday night.

Infielder Jacob Wilson was optioned to Sugar Land to make room for Bregman on the roster.
