Best of national signing day 2021: Tracking top college football recruits, updates, analysis and more

College Football, Football Recruiting, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Longhorns, Maryland Terrapins, Tennessee Volunteers, Michigan State Spartans, Auburn Tigers, Missouri Tigers, Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide

National signing day is here.

College football's early signing period begins Wednesday and lasts until Friday. High school recruits are able to sign their national letters of intent to lock them into the colleges of their choice.

This is the fifth year in which college football has held an early signing period, although Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby recently said it is a possibility that the recruiting calendar reverts to its old way of having only one national signing day, on the first Wednesday in February.

Recruits this cycle had to navigate through a mandated dead period for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some have also had to handle the task of navigating where they will sign amid a turbulent coaching carousel.

We will keep you updated with news, analysis, highlights, updated class rankings and more throughout the next few days.

Updated class rankings

We'll be updating our class rankings throughout the day, so stay tuned to see how the latest signings affect your team.

Signing-day stunner

Coach Prime made some magic happen with five-star corner Travis Hunter, who is ranked No. 2 overall, flipping from Florida State to Jackson State.

And the tossing the other hats here is really just the cherry on top.

Sanders and the Jackson State faithful are certainly celebrating today.

For a complete breakdown on Jackson State signing Hunter, check this out.

Key decisions

• ESPN 300 tight end Jake Johnson, the brother of former LSU QB Max Johnson, has committed to Texas A&M.

• Alabama added ESPN 300 defensive tackle Khurtiss Perry, the No. 56 prospect overall. Perry chose Bama over Auburn.

• Five-star wide receiver Shazz Preston committed to Alabama. Preston is the No. 15-ranked prospect overall.

• Michigan added a commitment from ESPN 300 defensive end Derrick Moore, the No. 23 ranked prospect overall.

• Defensive end Enai White committed to Texas A&M.

• Five-star safety Kamari Wilson, the No. 14 ranked recruit overall, chose Florida over Georgia, Florida State and LSU among others. And this reaction from the UF staff is incredible.

Tribute to Tate

Michigan State announced Tate Myre, a Class of 2023 player who was one of the four victims of the Oxford High School shooting, as an honorary member of the Spartans' recruiting class.

Latest flips

Three-star offensive lineman Falentha Carswell -- better known as "Flip" -- signed with Ole Miss after committing to Miami. A fitting start to national signing day.

Texas flipped offensive linemen Kelvin Banks and Cameron Williams from Oregon this past week, and so far the Longhorns have added two more names to the flip list: four-star athlete Xavion Brice (Oklahoma) and three-star defensive end Ethan Burke (Michigan). And most recently, Texas flipped ESPN 300 DB Terrance Brooks from Ohio State, ranked No. 89 overall.

In other flips:

• Auburn flipped ESPN 300 linebacker Robert Woodyard from Alabama. Woodyard is ranked No. 130 overall.

• Maryland flipped ESPN 300 linebacker Jaishawn Barham, the nation's No. 65 player, only four days after he committed to South Carolina.

Vols are going wild

Three-star wide receiver Marquarius White, who goes by the name Squirrel, signed with Tennessee on Wednesday, and defensive scouting coordinator Trey Johnson is among those who are excited.

Announcements taken to a new level

Need some juice? Texas A&M has you covered.

Have you heard ...

Is it just us or is Luther Burden an incredible name?

USC definitely took it up a notch with its intros.

Getting to sit on a throne while you sign? Yes. Just yes.

Best reactions

This is a great moment between Antonio Gates Sr. and Antonio Gates Jr.

How do you celebrate flipping four-star wide receiver Amorion Walker from Notre Dame to Michigan? A GIF of a stick figure doing cartwheels/flips, of course, just like Ron Bellamy did.
