OFFICIAL HOST BIO: Sandy Cohen is a Kansas City native who has worked on the sales side of radio since graduating with a degree from the School of Journalism at The University of Kansas.
Following college graduation for a nine-year period during the broadcast industry's period of consolidation, Cohen sold and managed within the same building for a variety of Kansas City radio stations and formats: Big Band, Classical, Smooth Jazz, Active Rock, Classic Rock and the Chiefs Radio Broadcast. After enduring several ownership changes, he was looking for a career change and opted to leave the radio industry for a position as Director of Client Services for C3, a promotional marketing agency based in Overland Park, Kansas.
After spending time outside radio, the lure of an entrepreneurial experience brought him back to the business. In September 1999, he joined Sports Radio 1510 KCTE as General Sales Manager and partner of the company. At that time, the company had a sales staff of five. Since then under Cohen’s direction, the sales operation has grown considerably in size and exponentially in revenue production.
Now Vice President/Director of Sales, Cohen is responsible for working with management and the sales team to maximize revenue on all company properties including: Sports Radio 810 WHB, Hot Talk 1510 KCTE, Union Indoor Advertising and related businesses.
ESPN Radio and Rick Scott and Associates has twice named Cohen “Sports Radio Sales Manager of the Year”. In 2002, the Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society named him “Man of the Year” for being the top fundraiser for the charity. The Kansas City Media Mix has awarded him “Radio Manager Of The Year”.
Outside of work, Cohen enjoys participating and competing in endurance sporting events including: Triathlons, Distance Running and Masters Swimming. He serves on numerous boards and committees including: The Jewish Community Center Board Of Directors, Hospital Hill Run Board Of Directors, Boys Hope Girls Hope Charity and is a Founding Board Member of The Kansas City Triathlon. He is married and has one daughter and one son and enjoys coaching and participating in all of their activities and events as they grow up.
