Kansas City Schools off to Good Start in Title Games
Updated 5:45pm

The 2007 MSHSAA Show-Me Bowl kicked off in St. Louis at the Edward Jones Dome Friday and Kansas City schools were ready. Lawson started the day with a 38-17 win over Blair Oaks. The score was 21-17 at the start of the 4th quarter, but Lawson took advantage of 4th quarter Blair Oaks turnovers to pull away. The Cardinals finished the season 14-0 and captured the school's first state football title.

Lee's Summit West's game against Parkway Central in Class 4 never had that same level of drama. The Titans were in control from the start of a 35-0 shutout win to finish 14-0 Class 4 State Champions.

Rockhurst struggled against Mehlville and trailed 9-7 at the half. But in the 4th quarter the Hawklet's physical superiority was evident on a couple of scoring drives and eventually won 28-9. The Hawklets also finish unbeaten at 13-0 and won their first state title since 2002.

Saturday six local teams are in action.

Orrick won the Class 1 state title with a 20-8 win.

Olathe South was tied with Hutchinson 14-14 at halftime in the Kansas Class 6-A title game. But Hutch turned it on in the second half and won their fourth straight state title 37-14.

However, good news in Class 5-A as Blue Valley West gets the area's fifth state title for the weekend with a 31-19 win over Wichita Bishop Carroll. The Jaguars won their first football state title with a 13-0 record.

In Class 4-A the news wasn't so good as Louisburg suffered their first loss of the season to unbeaten Andale 31-14.

At the Show-Me Bowl, Harrisonville has won their fourth state title in five years with a convincing 49-14 win over MICDS.

Dominating Day for KC
Chad Harberts

The first day of the 2007 Show-Me Bowl was much like every other year has been recently – ho hum…another Kansas City sweep.

Lawson was too opportunistic, Lee’s Summit West too deep and Rockhurst too good. The average margin of victory in the three games was 25 points. Lee’s Summit West had a turbo clock going in a State Title game. Lawson forced turnovers on the first play of four consecutive Blair Oaks’ possessions. Mehlville fans started leaving their team’s State Title Game with more than five minutes to play.
