KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the club and General Manager Scott Pioli have mutually agreed to part ways.

“After several productive conversations, we made the difficult decision to part ways with Scott Pioli and allow him to pursue other opportunities,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. “Scott has been an invaluable member of the Chiefs family since joining us in 2009, and we sincerely appreciate his tremendous contributions over the last four years.

“I know that this was a difficult decision for Scott as well. He has a great deal of appreciation for the history of this franchise, for our players, coaches and employees, and especially our great fans.

“There is no way to overstate the level of respect and admiration I have for Scott on a personal level. His character, loyalty, integrity and commitment to a team are extraordinary, and throughout the last four years, he has consistently put the best interests of the Chiefs ahead of his own. I know he will go on to enjoy further success in the National Football League, and I certainly wish him the best in the future.”

Pioli, 47, was named the Chiefs General Manager on Jan. 13, 2009 and has served in that position for four seasons. During his stint with the Chiefs, the club earned its first division title and home playoff appearance since 2003 and Pioli earned NFL Executive of the Year honors from national media outlets in 2010.

Pioli released the below statement on parting ways with the club:

“I would like to thank Norma, Clark and the Hunt Family for the opportunity that they gave me four years ago. I’d also like to thank the players, coaches, scouts and countless other employees, throughout the organization and at Arrowhead Stadium that have worked so hard during my time here. I would also like to genuinely thank Chiefs fans.

“The bottom line is that I did not accomplish all of what I set out to do. To the Hunt family – to the great fans of the Kansas City Chiefs – to the players, all employees and alumni, I truly apologize for not getting the job done.”

Please contact Ted Crews in the Chiefs Communications department with any questions or inquiries.

Brian Brown — Starting the Month of Money!

Jul 02, 2012 -- 11:09pm

Brian Brown – Starting the Month of Money!

(Bill W) July 2, 2012 – This marks the start of some big races for Brian Brown and the Brian Brown Racing Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team over the next month and a half.  They will run with the World of Outlaws Friday and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway and Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin, before heading to Ohio.  Last weekend, misfortune found its way in the form of some mechanical difficulties at I-80 Speedway and a little driver error at Lakeside with the Outlaws.

Friday saw the team tow to I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska to run with the ASCS-Midwest series.  “I-80 has always been one of our favorite tracks,” says Brian.  “Friday was no different.  We were able to win the heat from fourth and we drew a five on the redraw.”

Brian made his way towards the front as the green flag flew.  “We were able to get past Jack Dover there, and get past Lee Grosz on a restart to get into second,” he says.  “Dustin Selvage was setting a pretty good pace on the bottom.  We were up on the fence, and we were gaining on him.  I think it was about lap twelve when we had the motor issue.”

The motor gave way, ending a shot at another I-80 win.  “We were definitely in the position we needed to be, it just wasn’t meant to be,” says Brian.  “You run 120 nights, you are going to have motor troubles now and then.  That was the case on Friday night.  It was good that we have some time until the 360 Nationals.  Al Parker will have it back where it needs to be.”

Saturday night, action shifted to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas with the WoO in town.  “Last year, we nearly won our first Outlaw race there,” says Brian.  “We led 21 laps.  We had the seventh quick time Saturday.  Charlie Garrett is getting us really good horsepower right now.  We were able to sneak by Steve (Kinser) and win the heat.  The Dash didn’t go as well.  It was slick up against the fence and we didn’t get rolling well.  Cody Darrah was able to get by us.”

The team went to work on setup for their start in the front row.  “With the rain in the area, there wasn’t much time to work on the cars,” says Brian.  “It was hurry through all night long.  We made some changes I felt we needed.  We got a good start and blocked the middle and top.  We were able to take the lead coming out of turn two and going into three and four.”

That’s when he got into the wall.  “It was just a driver mistake,” says Brian.  “I got the right rear above what was left of the cushion.  I got into the fence, and unfortunately, someone else had to pay for it too.  Sometimes you have to put it on the edge, and I paid for going a little too far.”

The team heads north this week.  “I’m really pumped up about the next month and a half,” says Brian.  “Our team is going great.  We’re going to Cedar Lake and Beaver Dam with the Outlaws this week.”

There will be some extra incentive Friday night at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin.  “Cedar Lake will be the ‘FVP Showdown’,” says Brian.  “When your partner is sponsoring the race, you always want to do well.  I think there will be a number of employees and customers there for that one.  I’m really looking forward to getting up there and doing well.  We’re looking to be in contention all night long.”

Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin is another place that Brian has run well.  “We ran well at Beaver Dam last year,” he says.  “I think we went from 20th to 5th.  After that, we’re headed for the Brad Doty Classic and the King’s Royal.  We’re really looking forward to that.”

Brian's Q&A

Mitch Harbour asks:What’s the biggest difference in going against the Outlaws and the ASCS National Series?

Brian answers: I think the biggest thing is experience.  I think the Outlaw guys have more experience and laps at the different tracks.  The ASCS deal is really tough too.  It’s probably as tough as it gets outside of the Outlaws.  Their passing point system can be a challenge.  You aren’t in control of your destiny as much.
